The Campbell Town Clubrooms is a multi-purpose community and sporting facility designed to support a range of recreational and social activities. Located within Campbell Town’s recreation ground, the building brings together sporting, community and function spaces in a single, flexible facility while taking advantage of uninterrupted views across the oval.
Originally commissioned to provide a grandstand along with player and officials’ change facilities, the project evolved through PhilpLighton’s design process to include a commercial kitchen, function centre, gymnasium, lawn bowls facilities, and integrated pool entry and change facilities. These additions expanded the building’s role as a year-round community asset, supporting sporting clubs, local organisations and the adjacent district hospital. A central circulation spine provides efficient connections between the football oval, swimming pool and tennis courts, creating a cohesive and highly functional precinct.
The building is oriented to maximise northern solar gain while overlooking the recreation precinct. Environmentally sustainable design principles include roof-mounted solar panels supporting pool hot water and heating systems, improving energy efficiency throughout the facility. The project also incorporates the revitalisation of the site’s historic cenotaph, recognising the community’s heritage while delivering a contemporary civic asset.
