The Castle Forbes Bay house was completed in 2014 and is an excellent example of Green Architecture. It incorporates high and low tech solutions for managing solar gain and heating and cooling needs. The most striking feature of the design are the two meter overhangs which stop solar gain in summer but still allow the winter sun to enter the kitchen and living areas. The floor slab is kept at a constant temperature by a Geothermal pump. The pump transfers the ground temperature of 15 degrees Celsius 100m below the building into the floor slab. This can be supplemented in winter by wall mounted radiators fed with solar heated water at 43 degrees Celsius. The system practically eliminates the need for any other forms of heating within the house. Equally important to the client was how the house sits within the landscape and the panoramic views of the Huon River.
