This project is the major redevelopment of the iconic 1960s Morris Miller Library, the main academic library on the UTAS Sandy Bay campus. Within the existing shell of the building each floor has undergone complete refurbishment to insert contemporary facilities and learning environments to meet tertiary education challenges for the 21st century.
A major challenge was redesigning the Library to have 24/7 access with associated security implications and this was undertaken through careful space planning and the installation of extensive technology solutions. New bespoke joinery is inserted into the space and read as sculptural items and large script and typology are added in a playful manner. The result is a building integrating the resources of the library while meeting the functional needs and future proofing for ongoing development.
